The school is rather new and isn’t on a main road so it doesn’t halt nearby traffic as much as some other schools. The chances of a student getting hit by a car are less when the school entrance isn’t on a main road. There isn’t a public buss or public subway-transporation, so random people aren’t walking around the school property. This is a benefit regarding the schools location. The classroom itself that I am placed in has great decorations regarding poster creation, because my mentor teacher takes the time out of his schedule to laminate the posters. Posters are important to relax the environment and display lots of information. In addition there is a projector on the roof of the classroom that can be connected to a teachers computer. The projector is essential in creating a large projection for the kids to all see this is used instead of a classroom smart-board. The computer can also connect to the school printer via Wi-Fi to print out hundreds of paper copies for students.
However Wi-Fi regarding Internet is something that the kids have zero access to: there isn’t a school internet network. The class doesn't have any type of computer for student use. In many of the classes up to half of the students don’t have cell phones in a 7th and 8th grade class… So the students are missing out on technology at home, as well as at the school. This lack of technology leaves many students outdated, lacking in resources, and missing from the outside world.. Some of the students paper textbooks are also very old to a point where most books have pages missing from them due to the books bindings falling apart, a natural result of years of book use. The particular class is also more organized compared to other classes I have seen, since there is also a large walk in closet(without doors since they aren’t needed) in the classroom: used to store any sort of classroom materials: some of the items in a quick storage is pencils, some sport equipment, different types of books, and even cleaning supplies. Having a miniature hallway in the class is nice, since there is less clutter. There is also a janitor that comes by the class near the end of school hours to help with the cleaning. What this school and many other schools need is pubic student access to Free Wi-Fi Internet. That includes access to sites like youtube, Google, and even social networking sites. Since social networking helps them build their communication skills. Youtube contains millions of educational videos. Without Google your computer is a big paper weight. Comments are closed.
